Dashrath Manjhi was a simple farmer living in a small secluded town in Eastern India, when in 1967 when he was only 33, his wife was injured and needed immediate medical attention. The nearest Doctor was over 43 miles away and was only accessible by traveling on a narrow and treacherous path around a small mountain at one end of their town. As a result of this obstacle Dashrath’s wife did not survive and she left a devastated husband who decided to turn his big lemon into lemonade!
Dashrath decided that he wanted to prevent his loss from happening to anyone else in his town and for the next 22 years, day and night, he hammered and chiseled and succeeded in digging a new path through the mountain!
The little girl (Senna) in this “Ted Talk” video is only 8 years old, but at her very young age she figured out what Dashrath knew… every lemon can be turned into something sweeter*
