Deaf since the age of 3, Derrick Coleman never let his hearing disability keep him from doing anything. Growing up, he said he was “picked on and picked last” and that when anyone told him he couldn’t do something, it was just more motivation for him to do it.
So, it’s pretty ironic that he ended up on the Seattle Seahawks football team as they are famous for having the loudest fans in the NFL… Maybe they are yelling especially loud this season so that Derrick – with his limited hearing – will be sure to know that he’s got a stadium full of people backing him up and they all know that he CAN do anything he makes up his mind to do!
Derrick is a great inspiration – not just on the field but off the field as well. He told FOX Sports; “Every day I wake up and I get a chance. I always say that God blessed me this morning and I can do what I do. Our time in this world is very limited. It can be gone now or it can be gone later so I take advantage of every opportunity I have whether it’s playing football, working or whatever. I’m just a happy guy.” Thanks for the good message Derrick – we hear you Loud and Clear!
